Culture is the Inversion of Reality. Exhibition, Nieuwe Vide, Haarlem, 2017.

Commissioned for the exhibition Daydreaming Subverts The World at Nieuwe Vide in Haarlem, The Netherlands, this work explores the use of the image in the building of national identity. Daydreaming Subverts The World takes the Situationist movement as its starting point to examine how counterculture movements respond to the architecture, politics and culture of Western society.

A 5’43” minute video documents the process of inserting postcards bearing subversive images into the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem: the home of many famous paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. The postcards use images from the Frans Hals collections alongside quotes from Jean Baudrillard, Guy Debord and Mark Fisher.
